Hello Rohan,
I think the 22 gallon Rubbermaid tub would be fine for your purposes. You have a large tank for three fish, even if they are Oscars, but keep in mind the more water the better in any aquarium system. Let us know how you make out!

Hi Marcel,

Just bought a 120 gallon fish tank and am trying to build a setup that will be able to support 3 Oscars. Thinking about using a 22 gallon Rubbermaid tote as the filtration box with a 5-1/2 inch PVC pipe pulling water in.

Do you think that this will have enough filtration to support three Oscars? Would a bigger tote be needed for a 120 gallon tank? Would you add two 22 gallon filters for the tank?

Thanks!

I've tried using a thin nylon sock to block the debris, but I found that the knit was too tight and it clogged very quickly. A small swatch of window screen netting seems to work best for me.

Hi Marcel,

Do you think hosiery would be a good material for the mesh and double it up if you had too? would that be enough to air the eggs and stop debris coming in to the chamber?

Just found my bangai male with eggs !

Thank you so much for your information this has helped greatly quick and easy instructions.

If the fry are fully formed I will usually leave them in a floating fry trap with an air stone for aeration, but if their egg sac is still visible, I'll put them in the tumbler.

To put the eggs into the tumbler, I just twist the egg compartment off and use a turkey baster to transfer the fry.

I'm sure there must be another way to do this, so if you have developed one, like a trap door, or egg port or something else, please share it with us! Once the fry are in there I make a point of not taking it apart, so as to not chance spilling the fry in the main tank. If I need to add more fry I'll just use another tumbler.

Just wondering how you get the eggs in the tumbler. I usually pop the female in a separate container. Any info would help thanks.

You don't have to leave it in there, but I do. It's easier just to leave the primer 1/8" tube in the larger vinyl tube. I attach the other end to a powerhead venturi intake as insurance that the overflow will restart in the case of a power failure. Thanks for commenting.

Do you have to leave the 1/8'' tube in the larger one after you start the siphon?
